Focusing on individual student success as its number one priority?

“The budget documents show that Fort Cherry is considering consolidating superintendent and administrative services with Avella Area School District or eliminating one administrative position.”
The Observer-Reporter, April 30, 2011.

Is Fort Cherry is considering consolidating superintendent services with Avella?

This was first mentioned by Dinnen at the April 18 board meeting.

However, according to an April 21 article in the Observer, Avella is going to advertise for a new superintendent; no mention of consolidating services with Fort Cherry was made (full article at the end of this post).

“McConn said the board's personnel committee will look at the job description for the district superintendent and determine if it needs to be updated. The board also voted to advertise for the position.”

Was the District’s statement to the Observer an empty gesture?

Is the District seriously considering eliminating one administrative position?

The duty of the District is to EDUCATE our children, yet the District is considering furloughing 12.5 teaching positions as well as one nurse and one librarian, instrumental music, drivers’ education, reading recovery, and other programs.

Avella superintendent resigns

By Dawn Goodman, Staff writer dgoodman@observer-reporter.com

Avella Area School Board accepted the resignation of Superintendent Wayde Killmeyer Wednesday.
Killmeyer's resignation is effective June 30. He will start as superintendent in Clairton School District July 1.
"I wish you well," school board member Cyril Walther said before the unanimous vote of the seven board members present at the meeting.
"I wish the same for the district," said Killmeyer, who has been superintendent since 2005-06.
Killmeyer said he took the job at the 800-student Clairton because he thinks it will be a better opportunity to use his skills. The district has been in distress for a long time because of poverty, he said.
"It's a challenge, and I like a challenge," he said.
However, he said, he will miss Avella. He appreciates the support he received from the community and the board during his tenure as superintendent.
"I'm proud of everything we accomplished," he said.
Killmeyer said that includes infusing technology into the curriculum, a stricter adherence to school board policy and improving curricular offerings.
"I'm sorry to see him go," said school board President Cory McConn.
McConn said the board's personnel committee will look at the job description for the district superintendent and determine if it needs to be updated. The board also voted to advertise for the position.
