$50,000 Budgeted for Travel and Conferences

New information is circulating that the administrators, who were thought to be in Harrisburg the week of May 2, may have been in New York City instead.

If the administrators had gotten board approval prior to the trip, the public would know where they were and why they were there.  No  board approval was sought. . . .

·       The Administration has budgeted $50,000 for travel and conferences for the 2011-2012 school year.

This article appeared in the O-R last July.  (The O-R reporter assigned to the district, Dawn Goodman, RARELY appears at the meetings.  Goodman calls business manager Sroka and speaks to him about action taken at the meetings.)

       Fort Cherry School Board

       * Date: July 20

       * Action: Directors gave approval for board members and administrators to attend seminars and conferences during the 2009-10 school year as long as the cost does not exceed $800.
If the cost is more than $800, it must be approved separately by board.
       * Discussion: If the weather cooperates, the high school roof project should be complete before the Aug. 11 deadline.

The earthwork has been completed on the practice field.

       * Next meeting: 7:30 p.m. Aug. 17 in the elementary center library

According to this article, seminars and conferences require board approval if the cost is more than $800.

·       The past two years, the board has not separately approved attendance for any conferences or seminars.

·       The board approves travel expense reimbursements when it approves the payment of bills at the monthly board meetings.

·       The board is not shown the receipts for reimbursement, only the total to be reimbursed.

·       The administration is not required to give a report to the board to show the validity of the trip.

·       The administrators travel, spend, and are reimbursed.

The cost was increased to $900 for the 2010-2011 school year.
A resident asked at two separate meetings for clarification of what the $900 covers.  The board DID NOT RESPOND to the question.

Reimbursements given to Dinnen and Craig:
